Munchkin Nook is a land of munchkins.
The stories were created by the children, in one of the kindergartens in Zugliget.
Children in the Green group understand the world around them, through the lives of munchkins.
Bumpy’s story was born, based on their fantasy and experiences, in which, any other child could recognise himself or herself. The pre-school teachers wrote down and shaped Bumpy’s journey in the story, and a father of one of the children illustrated the book.
We recommend the book anyone, who would like to understand the thoughts, wishes and imagination of a 3-5 year old’s world.
”The micro world of the inhabitants in the Munchkin Nook, is a mirror of reality. Everyday life is reflected in the stories, but from the perspective of a 4-5 year old child; they reflect how that child would see the complex surroundings of the world around him or her, a world where reality is very much simplified. This is a munchkin perspective.”

Authors
The story was created by the Green group, from the kindergarten in Zugliget.
The foreword by Molnár Krisztina Rita beautifully sums up the process of creation:
“However, this book was made under very special circumstances and for that reason it deserves special attention. Stories and fairy tales have been passed down from generation to generation for hundreds of years. As such, it is impossible to say the actual author´s name for each story. Even though each folktale was created by a very real person, no one remembers their names. This, of course, is because it was the story that was important, not the name of the person who created it. With time, and with the passing on of stories by word of mouth, several features of the stories changed: more details were added and the stories were broadened and shaped with new characters and adventures.
Nowadays, it is rare for a story or fairy tale to be a collective intellectual creation, and even if it is, we most likely know the name of the creators.
The Munchkin Nook stories are a creation of a community. They are kind-hearted stories of a community, where the members aren’t, adults but children.

The pre-school teachers helped to collect, write down and shape the children’s stories — and just like Bumpy, the little Munchkin who was helped by others more knowledgeable than him, an editor, a designer and an illustrator also helped to create our finished version.
The peaceful world of the Munchkin Nook is lovingly illustrated by András Timár, the father of one of the children.”
There was a time in the kindergarten, when there were four pre-school teachers called Katalin. That’s how she got her nickname: Katinka.
She started working at the Kindergarten 32 years ago, when she was still a trainee.
A couple of years later, being an enthusiastic young teacher, she developed a local program based on the Freinet pedagogical method with her colleagues.
“Our goal is to help children get the most experience they can, in order to make them more confident and to support them to adjust to the world confidently. It is important for them to question their boundaries, explore, experiment and discover. This approach guides me in the education of my five children which I try to pass on to other college students, colleague apprentices, as well as all the parents.”
Vass Reka wasn’t new to Munchkin Nook´s location, as she used to go to this same pre-school as a child. She received her Kindergarten teacher Diploma in 2005. Her son also goes to the Zugliget pre-school. She looks after the Green group with Katinka. “Katinka and I have known each other for more than 15 years, and we became friends very quickly. She is the one who introduced me to the Freinet pedagogical method, which I think is the most child orientated method in existence. I always monitor the children´s reactions, and I also find it important to let them express their thoughts and opinions.”
András Timár originally planned to be a painter. From a young age he started working in marketing and communication. In the past twenty years, with his business partner Vadim Ostapenko, they created and built several Hungarian and national brands’ image and websites.
A father of two, who reproduced the main character of the book Bumpy, on his younger son, Marci.
He never gave up on the idea to return to painting…
